Underground Nuclear Test Held by Soviets

MOSCOW —
The Soviet Union conducted an underground nuclear test explosion Wednesday at its site in Semipalatinsk in Central Asia, Tass news agency reported.
Tass said the explosion had a yield of between 20 and 150 kilotons.
“The test was conducted to upgrade military equipment,” the report said.
The Soviets’ last previous nuclear test was conducted April 22.
