At least 28 people were killed in a weekend of separatist violence in Punjab, India. The violence included a raid by gunman on a wedding and a gun battle between police and Sikhs, authorities said. Five suspected Sikh separatists were killed in a battle with police in a village in northern Punjab state. A constable was injured in the clash and died later. Three gunmen on motorcycles raided a wedding in neighboring Haryana state, killing 13 members of the nomadic Sansi tribe. The Home Ministry ordered police in northern India, which includes the capital of New Delhi, on full alert against the Sikh extremists, who are fighting for an independent homeland. More than 850 people have been killed this year in separatist violence.
