--Mary Beth Whitehead-Gould, the subject of intense publicity during a custody battle for a girl she bore under a surrogate contract, has sought to limit public information released about her fourth child, a boy, who was born at a Long Branch, N.J., hospital Monday. Monmouth Medical Center spokeswoman Jane Hollander said both Whitehead-Gould and the boy were doing well. But Hollander said, at Whitehead-Gould’s request, that no other details would be released, including the child’s weight, time of birth, his name or the name of the delivering doctor. “She told us, ‘I don’t want any publicity or any pictures or any interviews,’ ” Hollander said. Whitehead-Gould married Dean Gould, the boy’s father, in November after receiving a divorce from Richard Whitehead. On Feb. 3, the New Jersey Supreme Court granted custody of Baby M, the girl Whitehead-Gould bore under a $10,000 contract, to the child’s father, William Stern, and his wife, Elizabeth.

He said he is being treated for alcohol and prescription drug abuse but did not specify what drugs he had been taking. --Doubleday editor Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis may follow her success in bringing “Moonwalk,” the autobiography of the elusive Michael Jackson, to publication with a work by an even more private person. The Boston Herald is quoting an anonymous source who says Onassis is close to getting a commitment for Swedish actress Greta Garbo’s autobiography and predicted a deal will be signed in a few weeks. Garbo, 83, has shunned the limelight since abandoning her film career in 1941. The source said Onassis’ effort was given an assist through an intermediary, King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden. “It was only after speaking to King Gustav that Greta began to carefully consider writing her memoirs,” the source said. “That’s when she agreed to a meeting with Jackie.”
