Three-year-old Prince Harry, the younger son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, returned home today after surgery for a minor hernia, Buckingham Palace said.

Harry was taken home at midday by his mother, who stayed overnight in Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in a room next to her son. A palace spokeswoman said that Prince Harry’s condition was diagnosed recently and that the operation was not an emergency, but she declined to give further details.

Charles is vacationing in Italy. After discussing his son’s condition by telephone, he decided not to return home early, the spokeswoman said.
