A Soviet satellite that may be nuclear-powered has gone out of control and could hit the Earth in a matter of months, Britain’s Independent Television News said, quoting Western specialists. ITN’s evening report identified the satellite as Cosmos 1900, launched in December, and said it was not clear where it would land if it survived re-entry into the atmosphere. There have been several cases of satellites going out of control and falling back toward Earth in the last 10 years. Most have been destroyed by the intense heat generated when the craft hits the atmosphere.
