Criticism of Conrad

I do not agree or disagree with Conrad’s cartoon of April 27 about Israel and the Palestinians. Conrad is not only speaking his mind freely, as guaranteed by our Constitution, but is also making humor of a political or newsworthy situation, as is the purpose of a political cartoon. Might I remind your readers that a cartoon is defined as: “A drawing ludicrously exaggerating the peculiarities of some action or subject.”

Furthermore, why is it that any cartoon, or any material, depicting Jews in a negative manner, is criticized by Jews as anti-Semitic? Israel is a nation just like any other nation in the world. Israel is guilty of political injustice by oppressing innocent Palestinian people, and anybody criticizing Israel’s actions cannot be considered as anti-Semitic. Every nation in this world is guilty of some type of political injustice.

As far as Conrad being accurate or inaccurate in his editorializing, he is accurate. If the Israeli people do not cease in persecuting the Palestinian people, no one will be willing to talk peace with Israel.

If Israel, as a nation, does not cease to oppress by force innocent Palestinian people, there can be no peace, and Israel cannot be considered any less guilty than Nazi Germany.
