Leftist guerrillas in El Salvador blew up part of a hydroelectric dam, causing a nationwide power shortage. Sixteen soldiers were killed and 15 wounded in fighting that followed the attack on the dam, hospital officials said. Meanwhile, a Soviet journalist was apparently kidnaped from his hotel in San Salvador. Yuri Stroev, a correspondent for Pravda, was taken away by several men who identified themselves as immigration officials, hotel employees said. An armed forces spokesman said he had no information on the incident. In another development, gunmen killed a Salvadoran judge, Jorge Alberto Serrano, 45, two days after he indicated he would not grant amnesty to jailed members of a right-wing kidnaping ring.
