A Soviet satellite launched last December appears to be in a stable orbit, casting doubt on a report that it is out of control and could hit the Earth in months, U.S. military officials said. “Cosmos 1900 is in a circular orbit approximately 160 nautical miles in altitude and appears to be stable in that orbit,” Air Force Capt. Brian Holt said, adding that monitoring will continue. Britain’s Independent Television News reported Tuesday that Cosmos 1900, which it said may be nuclear powered, had malfunctioned.
