Iraq reported that its warplanes hit another tanker off Iran’s coast a day after its devastating raid on a key Persian Gulf oil terminal that claimed at least 17 lives. The Iranians, still battling sporadic fires on one of the five tankers hit in the raid on their Larak Island oil terminal, accused the U.S. Navy of jamming radar and radio to aid Iraqi jets. U.S. officials in the region said the Navy played no part in the raid. The bodies of 17 seamen have been recovered in the wake of the Larak raid, according to London-based Lloyd’s Shipping Intelligence Unit. At least three other crew members are still missing. In Washington, the Pentagon also announced that the wreckage of a U.S. helicopter that disappeared after U.S.-Iranian fighting last month was recovered, along with the remains of its two crew members.
