Switzerland Lifts TV Ban on Condom Ads
From Reuters
BERN, Switzerland —
State-run Swiss Television has decided to lift a five-year-old ban on condom advertisements provided that they emphasize hygiene and not pleasure, comfort or lust.
The decision was prompted by the growing risk of AIDS--acquired immune deficiency syndrome--and the good taste of condom advertisements shown in neighboring countries, a spokesman for Swiss TV said.
The advertisements are expected to start appearing on Jan. 1, 1989.
