Jobs

I would like to thank the people at The Times for your excellent report on jobs for gang members--especially staff writer Bob Baker (Part I, April 15).

Your efforts are appreciated by me and family members who have lost their loved ones to gang violence. However, it may or may not make a difference in society but, if only one out of 100 gang members is saved, it’s a blessing.

Unfortunately, there are many flaws of human nature. Just because these young men and women are being neglected by irresponsible parents and society does not mean we can’t reverse these flaws by showing we care and are doing something about it instead of talking.

Together we can help the younger generation by giving them what they really need--a job and a goal to succeed in life. If we shut our eyes to this problem and hope it will go away, it would be as if we put the gun to their heads and pulled the trigger.

There always has to be a beginning to solving a problem. So let’s make sure that there is a solution to this one.
