Israel Memorial Defaced

BASEL, Switzerland —
Fourteen of the 40 cedars from Israel planted in Basel to mark the Jewish state’s 40th anniversary were uprooted overnight and a commemorative stone was defaced, police reported Tuesday.
The tree-planting ceremony on April 17 sparked a demonstration against Israeli policies in occupied Arab territories. The trees were provided by the Jewish National Fund.
