‘Repression in Jordan’
As an American living in Jordan for the past 14 years, I reject and resent your editorial. Jordan, for your information, has managed, against very difficult odds ranging from religious extremism to political uncertainties sweeping the region, to maintain one of the most open societies in the Middle East region and to achieve an impressive level of economic development with few resources.
King Hussein, who has led this small nation for the past 36 years, is to be credited for this achievement. To accuse him of being a dictator is unjust and insulting. It is bad judgment on your part to add your voice to those who seek to disinform the public.
