U.S. Auto Sales Dip 2.2% for Mid-May

Share

Sales of U.S.-made automobiles slipped 2.2% in mid-May due largely to declines at General Motors and Nissan, the eight domestic producers reported on Tuesday.

Both Ford and Chrysler posted slight gains, while the domestic sale of U.S.-made Hondas rose over 37%. GM, which recently stepped back somewhat from its aggressive sales incentive programs, said its sales fell 6.4%. Nissan, which has had serious sales problems in recent months, reported a drop of more than 52%.

The sale of imported autos is reported only on a monthly basis.
