Voters have approved a $674-million school building program designed to cover the construction needs of Nevada’s largest school district for the next decade.

The Clark County School District said the building program would ease overcrowding in existing classrooms and provide new schools for an enrollment that is expected to reach 157,000 students by 1997. The current enrollment is about 100,000 students.

With all votes counted in Tuesday’s election, 39,544 or 67.6% were in favor, and 18,968 or 32.4% were opposed. Only 31.8% of the county’s registered voters went to the polls, officials said.
