Under the slogan “Mayor’s Crack Down,” crews in Tampa, Fla., bulldozed 50 vacant homes, a dozen of them known as outlets for crack cocaine sales and the rest described by officials as potential centers of criminal activity. “It’s a win-win situation,” Mayor Sandy Freedman said as demolition crews finished three days of work. “One lady who lives near a house we tore down on Seventh Avenue called this morning to say she’d slept better last night than she had in years.”
