Profiles
As an American who has lived and taught in England for more than 25 years, I have a very real need for the sort of background information that even the best British journals like The Economist or the International Herald Tribune cannot supply.
Fortunately, I have an aunt and uncle who live in Los Angeles. They have clipped and sent to me the series of profiles on candidates in this year’s election which The Times has published.
I write to say that those articles have been exceptionally well-done, shrewd, sensitive and well written.
Your reporters may be consoled, too, for their trouble by the words of Dr. Samuel Johnson (unfortunately an Oxford man) who once said, “What is written without pain will be read without pleasure.”
