Local News in Brief : Landfill Pilot Project
Hazardous household wastes can be troublesome to handle--and illegal, when homeowners either store the wastes or throw them out with the trash.
Under a new program, however, Los Angeles County residents soon will be able to dispose of such wastes in special areas at five county landfills. The pilot project, which will begin in July, was announced Thursday by county officials, who said the landfills will be open one day a week to receive the hazardous materials.
