An alleged Japanese terrorist who authorities suspect was plotting attacks on the Olympic Games in Seoul arrived today to heavy police guard after being deported from the Philippines.

About 100 police officers met the Japan Air Lines plane carrying Hiroshi Sensui, 51, as it arrived at Tokyo’s Narita airport.

Sensui was arrested Tuesday at a suburban Manila hotel. Officials said he was a member of the leftist Japanese Red Army and had been sought since 1977, when he was released from prison in exchange for hostages aboard a JAL plane.

In Manila, Mirian Defensor-Santiago, the Philippine immigration commissioner, told reporters that Sensui had undergone plastic surgery and had to be identified by fingerprints.

She said evidence indicated the Japanese Red Army had planned to use Manila as a base for operations during the Summer Olympic Games, which begin Sept. 17 in Seoul.
