Viewing the Cold War

As I picked up The Times, I felt slapped in the face by the front-page headline “Won’t Be Rushed Into Arms Pact, Reagan Says” (June 3).

Even assuming it was merely one of his warped, detached political pontifications, it was like something out of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” or more accurately, the Three Stooges.

Humanity has been ravaged by war and violence for thousands of years and agonizing under a nuclear sword of Damocles for 43 years. Reagan has had access to all the facts and issues for more than seven years. He is now dealing with a counterpart that evidently wants and needs arms reductions. And he still demands time to think about it?
