South Korea’s Supreme Court Chief Justice Kim Yong Chul will resign in response to a call by junior judges that he be dismissed and that the court be overhauled, according to his aides. Kim, who took office in 1986, will formally offer his resignation today, his aides added. More than 200 of the nation’s 900 judges have joined a campaign to oust Kim and reform the court. On Wednesday, 85 judges issued a statement demanding that sweeping changes be made to restore public confidence. “The judiciary is facing a crisis because it has done little to reform itself despite high popular expectations for democracy,” the judges said.
