Robert Gilmore; American Forum Founder

Robert Wallace Gilmore, 67, founding president of the American Forum, a nonprofit group that strives to improve education throughout the world. Until he founded the Forum, formerly known as Global Perspectives in Education, Gilmore was active in the Congress on Racial Equality and as an organizer of the National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy. A former partner in Publisher’s Clearing House, a magazine subscription firm, Gilmore was head of the U.S. Table Tennis Assn. in 1972 when it sponsored the tour of a team from the People’s Republic of China. That exchange marked a first with mainland China. In Miami on June 10 of a heart attack.
