Ortega Warns Rightists on New Economic Steps
President Daniel Ortega lashed out Friday at right-wing opponents of the Nicaraguan revolution saying that the government could “sweep them away from the country’s economic space” if they did not support new economic measures.
He was responding to criticism in the opposition newspaper La Prensa of new economic measures, including Wednesday’s 85% devaluation of the cordoba and a 30% salary increase for government workers. “They are playing with fire,” Ortega was quoted as saying in a speech to a group of Managua workers.
