Obituaries : Alice R. Frost; Pasadena Civic Leader

Alice Rickey Frost, a horticulturist known for nearly 60 years for her civic and philanthropic activities in Pasadena, died Sunday in a San Gabriel sanitarium.

The daughter of Thomas Rickey, a rancher and later state senator who raised cattle in Nevada when that state was still part of the Utah Territory, was 88 and had been ill for some time.

Mrs. Frost was one of the first presidents of Pasadena Beautiful and was given primary credit for the tree plantings on Lake Avenue and Green Street in that city. She also served as president of the Pasadena Garden Club and was on the boards of the California Arboretum Foundation and Descanso Gardens Guild as well as serving as a president of the Pasadena Day Nursery and as a director of the California Historical Society.

A widow, Mrs. Frost is survived by two daughters, Barbara Frost Harkness and Alice Frost Thomas, and a son, F. Daniel Frost. Ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchilden also survive.

In lieu of flowers donations are asked to the California Arboretum Foundation.
