One person was killed and 18 were wounded when a car bomb exploded in East Beirut, police said. The bomb went off in a narrow alley in the Karantina district of the mostly Christian sector of the Lebanese capital, a police spokesman said, setting six shops on fire and damaging eight cars. The Lebanese Forces, the main right-wing Christian militia that controls East Beirut, said explosives experts defused another car bomb in Karantina, but police could not confirm that report. No one claimed responsibility for the bombing.
