Romania, stung by Hungarian protests over its plan to evict thousands of ethnic Hungarians from Transylvania, ordered the closure of a Hungarian cultural center in Bucharest. Earlier, Romania had ordered Hungary’s consul general in the Transylvanian city of Cluj to leave the country and declared the consulate there closed. The Hungarian Foreign Ministry protested to Romania’s acting charge d’affaires that the latest action violates international agreements and “seriously damages Hungarian-Romanian relations,” Hungary’s MTI news agency reported.
