Two cars rigged with explosives blew up today in separate parts of Lebanon, killing at least one person and injuring 52, police said.

The first explosion occurred on Hamra, West Beirut’s busiest street, at about 11:50 a.m. near the Grand Hotel in the Syrian-policed neighborhood. There were reports that a man killed in the blast was the driver of the bomb-carrying auto. Thirty-two people were injured in that bombing. Later, a Mercedes Benz loaded with explosives blew up in eastern Lebanon’s Bekaa Valley near a Syrian army checkpoint, police said, injuring 20 people.
