Cars Are the Culprit

Share

It is apparent to me that there is a humorous nature to the “no- and slow-growth initiatives” we are facing in the city of San Diego and San Diego County November elections. Why anyone would want to reduce the number of homes built or impact job availability is beyond me. I would like to propose a more appropriate method of controlling the amount of growth in San Diego County.

Since much of the argument of growth relates to traffic, we should immediately suspend all automobile sales. Automobile dealers should be required to pay all facilities benefit assessments and school fees, since they are the ones selling the main cause of traffic.

It is obvious that homes don’t pollute and create smog, cars do. Homes don’t create traffic; cars do. Homes don’t drive on freeways; cars do. In addition, home builders are all-American. They use American labor, American building materials, and keep the profits in America.

Automobile dealers will sell any make they are capable of, be it Yugoslavian, German, French, British or Japanese. Instead of passing profits to the respective countries, automobile dealers should be required to provide mass transit, parks, day care and car pool lanes. I propose a car tax to fund a class-action suit against Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties for sending their smog down here and causing San Diego County to fail government standards.

The next time someone suggests that the development of homes is ruining the persona of San Diego, I suggest they try taking the bus.
