Shasta County Shuts Libraries in Funds Crisis

REDDING, Calif. —
Shasta County has become the first county in the state to eliminate its libraries, shutting them down for a second time.
The county closed the buildings because of money problems last October, then reopened them three months later. But in March, voters rejected a proposed half-cent sales tax, forcing the county to phase out library services at its nine branches. The last of them closed Thursday.
