Bangladeshi film stars protesting against a new entertainment tax staged a demonstration in downtown Dhaka, and more than 100 people were hurt when riot police moved in to break up the sit-in, witnesses said. The injured reportedly included at least a dozen actors and actresses, who staged their protest on the street outside the Bangladeshi Parliament. “We were beaten up mercilessly,” said Abdur Razzak, head of the Film Artists’ Guild. Police said they used force to clear the street of thousands of fans who gathered to cheer their idols, snarling traffic.
