A car bomb exploded in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, killing six people and injuring 26, Kabul Radio said. The radio also said that rockets fired by Muslim guerrillas struck a residential area of the capital, killing seven people and wounding 19. The car bomb went off about 250 yards from the headquarters of the ruling People’s Democratic Party. Western diplomats in Pakistan said the bomb appeared to have been directed at party and government offices. The attacks came as U.N. envoy Diego Cordovez began talks in Kabul with government officials to review implementation of the April 14 agreement on the withdrawal of Soviet troops from the country.
