Britain Talks Arms With Kuwait
Britain said today it was ready to discuss arms sales to Kuwait, which faces opposition in the U.S. Congress to a deal for advanced American fighters and missiles.
British Secretary of State for Defense George Younger announced his country’s position as he arrived for talks on the Iran-Iraq War and arms sales. Diplomats say Kuwait could follow Saudi Arabia in buying British Tornado jet fighters if Congress puts unacceptable restrictions on the sale of U.S. aircraft. Kuwaiti Prime Minister Sheik Saad al Abdullah al Sabah opened talks in Washington today intended in part to counter congressional opposition to the proposed sale of F-A/18 fighters and missiles.
