Ousted Panamanian President Eric A. Delvalle, who had been in hiding in Panama since February, has begun an unannounced visit here to undergo a routine medical examination, his ambassador to the United States said on Tuesday.

Juan Sosa, the ambassador, said Delvalle, who has long suffered from a heart condition and underwent bypass surgery in the 1970s, plans to return to Panama within a few days.

“He will definitely go back. He is committed to the struggle to restore democracy to Panama,” Sosa said in a phone interview from the Panamanian Embassy in Washington.

He said Delvalle had no current plans to meet with officials of the Reagan Administration, which has continued to recognize him as Panama’s head of state since his ouster by military ruler Gen. Manuel A. Noriega.
