Ratings released Wednesday show hard-rock oriented KGB-FM (101.5) as the new king of the San Diego radio market.
The Arbitron ratings for the spring quarter list KGB-FM as the highest rated station with a 9.0 share, up from a 6.3 share the previous quarter. The Top 40 format of KKLQ, a.k.a. “Q106,” is tied for first overall with a cumulative 9.0 share, but that share is split between its FM (106.5) outlet, which recorded an 8.1, and its AM (600) station.
News-talk KSDO-AM (1130), No. 1 last quarter, is third with a 7.3 share, down from an 8.1 the previous quarter. KFMB-AM (760) has a 7.0 share.
KGB’s efforts were bolstered by a new series of television advertisements, featuring a fish dropped into a food processor. The ad aired for the first time two months ago.
Several stations show small ratings drops. KFMB-FM (100.7) fell from a 7.3 to 6.1 share, KJQY (103.7) went from a 7.9 share to a 6.8, and KIFM-FM (98.1) went from a 4.7 to a 3.4.
