Local News in Brief : Countywide : Wieder Lauds County for Work-Hour Changes
The proportion of county government employees working on non-traditional job schedules has reached an all-time high of 73%, Orange County Supervisor Harriett M. Wieder’s office announced Wednesday.
A study by the county Personnel Department, submitted to the supervisors this week, also showed that the number has increased by 13% since October, the office said.
“It is good to see government taking a leadership role to help reduce rush-hour (traffic) congestion on our streets and freeways,” Wieder said in a statement. “Now, if we could get the private sector to make similar modifications, maybe we could see some tangible results on our streets.”
Last year, the Board of Supervisors directed county departments and agencies to put workers on alternate work schedules when possible.
