Local News in Brief : Irvine : UCI College of Medicine Dean Named to Panel

Dr. Edward Quilligan, vice chancellor of health sciences and dean of the UC Irvine College of Medicine, has been appointed to the Health Professions National Advisory Council by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Otis Bowen.

The 20-member national council advises the federal Department of Health and Human Services on education programs for professions engaged in health care. The council also reviews applications for federal education grants to health professionals.

Quilligan will serve four years on the advisory council.

Quilligan, a resident of Irvine, assumed his current position at UCI in July, 1987. He is editor of the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a former president of the American Obstetrics and Gynecology Society.
