The Kentucky Board of Education voted to require emergency exit windows on new school buses, the first design changes ordered since a fiery bus crash killed 27 people in May. The board also voted to require new buses to be powered by diesel fuel, which is considered safer and less combustible than gasoline. Officials said that change had been proposed as an economy measure before the May 14 crash of the bus.
