‘Gay Churches in the Age of AIDS’
Your article in Orange County Life (“Gay Churches in the Age of AIDS,” July 2) demands a reply.
It amazes me that you continue to present the gay life style as just another way to live, as though these people are normal. It amazes me more that the gay churches fail to understand the clear teaching of Scripture about their life style.
Both the Old and New Testaments condemn this behavior. Leviticus 20:13 says: “If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death.”
Regarding lesbians, the New Testament has this clear word: “God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones” (Romans 1:26 NIV).
Most evangelical Christians recognize that AIDS is not God’s direct punishment for the perverted life style of gay people. Rather, acquired immune deficiency syndrome is the consequence of violating certain standards that God has established in nature. Defy the law of gravity and we get killed. Live a homosexual life style and get AIDS.
Epidemics and drought in the land are God’s way of alerting us to our sinful behavior. We in the evangelical community do not say we are better than those in gay churches--we all have to repent, we all have to acknowledge our sins and come to Christ for cleansing. How can the gay churches say they love God when they do not obey the Scriptures and allow God’s word to guide them in their conduct?
