Reagan Hails Heroes of Technology
President Reagan hailed the heroes of “this new era of information and technology” Friday in presenting the nation’s highest science honors to 30 trail-blazing pioneers in the fields of science and technology.
Taking credit for economic policies that have spurred innovation and entrepreneurship, Reagan presented medals for outstanding achievement in areas ranging from economics and aviation to particle physics and immunology.
Among the 19 men and one woman honored by Reagan with the National Medal of Science were Nobel Prize-winning conservative economist Milton Friedman and physicist Paul Chu, who is on the cutting edge of work on high-temperature superconductivity, the property of some materials to conduct electricity without resistance.
