Singapore released a lawyer and critic of the government who was detained in May after he met with a U.S. diplomat. The Home Affairs Ministry said Francis Seow, a former solicitor general and former president of Singapore’s Law Society, was freed on condition that he not leave Singapore or associate with foreign diplomats. Seow was detained May 6 after he met with U.S. diplomats, including E. Mason Hendrickson, of the U.S. Embassy’s political section. Singapore accused Hendrickson of meddling in Singapore’s internal affairs and expelled him, and Washington ousted a Singapore diplomat.
