From there, they will set off today on the 14th stage, with Pedro Delgado of Spain leading. Andrew Hampsten of the United States is 10th, more than 10 minutes back.

In the women’s race, Jeannie Longo of France won the fifth stage, a 14-mile individual time trial, to strengthen her overall lead to 40 seconds over Maria Canins of Italy.
