A body builder and bouncer at several San Fernando Valley nightspots is being held at the Van Nuys Jail in lieu of $62,000 bail after a homemade bomb was found in his car, Los Angeles police said Monday.

Larry Pollock, 21, was arrested on suspicion of possession of a destructive device about 8:15 p.m. Sunday outside a former girlfriend’s home, police said. He was wearing a bulletproof vest and had an automatic pistol, police said.

Police said they also found a silencer and the pipe bomb in Pollock’s Jeep. They said they later searched his Canoga Park home, where they seized other weapons and a large quantity of steroids and syringes, Officer Joe Mariani said.

Before his arrest, Pollock--armed with the pistol, which he held inside a paper bag--had entered the former girlfriend’s home in the 8100 block of Willis Avenue through an unlocked door, police said. He threatened the woman over an unpaid $500 debt, police said.
