A malfunction in an electrical power supply triggered the shutdown of the Unit 2 reactor at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant near San Luis Obispo, officials said. “In compliance with Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulations, the incident was classified as an ‘unusual event’ and proper notifications were made,” Diablo spokesman Ron Rutkowski said. He said there was no radioactive release, there was no danger to the public and the situation was stable. “Plant operators got indications of an electrical ground problem on a circuit that did not involve safety-related or emergency equipment,” NRC spokesman Greg Cook said.
