This year their convention will be held in New Zealand. Next year, Massachusetts. But the group that convenes every year in a different city never meets anywhere but Westport. The convention of the 23 Westports around the world--17 in the United States, three in Canada and one each in Ireland, England and New Zealand--begain in 1983 after Westport, Mo., Mayor Robert Regan visited Westport, Ireland, and invited that city’s mayor to help his Westport celebrate its 150th anniversary. In 1990, the annual World Convention of Westports will be held in Westport, Conn., home to actor Paul Newman and talk show host Phil Donahue and considered the toniest of the Westports.
