Local News in Brief : INS Opens Amnesty Line
- Share via
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service has set up a toll-free telephone number in Los Angeles where immigrants seeking permanent residence under the second phase of the federal amnesty program may get information--in their own languages--about the process.
INS personnel will man the phones from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday, and answer questions about application deadlines as well as about such requirements as enrollment in English and civics classes, and about who may be exempt from taking them.
The phone number is 1-800-448-4994 and serves the INS western region, which includes California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam. Information is available in English, Spanish and Korean and soon will be available in Chinese and Tagalog.
