Talk show host Oprah Winfrey has donated $7,500 to feed the senior citizens of Alexandra, a poor black township on the outskirts of Johannesburg in South Africa. Representatives of an American welfare group, Coalition on Southern Africa, delivered the money and 43 boxes of clothes, blankets and books to the township. According to the welfare representatives, Winfrey had been moved to action by the book “Kaffir Boy,” written by South African tennis player Mark Mathabane, which portrays a young man growing up in Alexandra.
