Official Ends Order to Shoot Brawlers

WADLEY, Ga. —
The mayor who directed police officers to shoot brawlers to end fighting in a park has rescinded the order, saying it was a scare tactic to prevent hoodlums from taking over the city.
“I was going to lift the order anyway,” Mayor B. A. Johnson said Wednesday. “I just did it a day early. I think we got our point across.”
After a Sunday brawl among youths using sticks as weapons, Johnson told police officers to “shoot from the waist down” anyone caught fighting in the 12-acre park.
