American Foulbrood is a bacterium spread by adult bees that affects developing bees in their larva and pupa stages. When it is found, beekeepers must destroy the unborn bees. The average range of infection in Orange County is 15-18% of apiaries inspected. The high point of American Foulbrood infection in the county was 29% in 1970. The low was 5%, in 1959.
