Conference Center Urged for Park

Share

Your story on the Palisades Presbyterian Conference grounds and the differences over what to build at the public entrance to Topanga State Park, once again points up yesterday’s vision refusing to see today and tomorrow’s needs. (Times, July 17).

I attended a teen-age national youth convention at the same facility in 1936. Very little has changed within the conference area. The Temescal Canyon, with its high school, public facilities and easy access to the beach, was but a man-made footpath in 1936.

With teen problems growing in the area, a “Y” at the corner of Sunset and Temescal is a MUST.

A conference center within the conference area would add a dimension to the park well beyond the limited use by hikers and bikers.

Those who use the false cry of environment, need to look at the UCLA Conference Center at Lake Arrowhead. That pristine area was enhanced by the UCLA facility. The same will hold true for what’s proposed by the Presbyterian Conference people. Let’s support it. Tomorrow is now as you read what I wrote yesterday.
