Water damage from a June 27 fire is causing problems for Dense-Pac Microsystems, a Garden Grove manufacturer of computer memory chips for the military.

An emergency sprinkling system at the company’s plant in Garden Grove quickly doused the fire, but the water caused nearly $100,000 damage to two pieces of sophisticated machinery used to test computer chips, Chairman James G. Turner said.

The damage has delayed product shipments and resulted in some canceled orders, Turner said.

As a result of the lost orders, the Garden Grove firm estimated that sales for the second quarter ending Aug. 27 will be in the range of $1.3 million to $1.5 million--down from $1.8 million in the first quarter. The company had been projecting sales of $1.8 million to $2 million, Turner said.

The chairman said, however, that he expects “no major impact” on the company’s projected sales or earnings for the fiscal year that ends Feb. 28, 1989.

Turner said no employees were in the plant when the fire started.
